A lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr. Fabian Osita, was tragically killed during a carjacking attempt in Anambra State. The incident occurred on Monday night near the high-tension area in Aroma, Awka.
The assailants, believed to be members of a car-snatching syndicate, ambushed Dr. Osita as he was driving home from work. When he resisted their attempt to steal his car, they shot him in the head, leading to his immediate death.
The perpetrators, after abandoning the victim’s body, fled the scene in his Toyota Corolla car. The incident has sparked fear and concern among residents of Awka, highlighting the growing insecurity in the area.
The University community is mourning the loss of Dr. Osita, a respected lecturer in the Business Department. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is reportedly mobilizing to express their grievances over the rising insecurity to the state government.
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident and launched an investigation to apprehend the culprits. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
