There is no shortage of good truly wireless earbuds (TWS) in the market, but there aren’t many with an open-ear design with active noise cancellation (ANC), except for the recently launched AirPods 4. This is because it is difficult to achieve noise cancellation without a proper ear seal. It looks like Nothing has taken on this challenge and might introduce an AirPods 4 alternative–– ‘Ear Open’––on September 24.

Upcoming ‘Ear Open’ Could be Nothing’s Answer To Apple AirPods 4

The upcoming TWS from Nothing is likely to be an upgraded version of Nothing Ear (Stick) (review), which was the company’s first pair of wireless earbuds without an ear tip, similar to the AirPods 4. However, like most earbuds without ear tips, it also missed out on ANC.But, with the new model, the company might introduce ANC. The AirPods 4 is also the first non-Pro truly wireless earbuds with ANC from Apple, and is also available in a non-ANC model.

While there isn’t much information on the upcoming Nothing Ear Open TWS, it should offer a premium user experience with features like support for high-resolution audio codecs, all-day battery life, and should be fully compatible with Android and iOS devices. It will have deeper integration with Nothing smartphones. The AirPods 4, on the other hand, can be used with Android smartphones, but functions will be limited.Achieving ANC on a closed-ear earbud (with ear tips) is much easier, as it would physically isolate the external sound and block some of the sounds using anti-noise. Whereas in an open-ear earbud, it will be more challenging since it will be difficult to achieve a soundproof seal.
